Makers Using Technology Residency 3 - Beate's First 3D Print | Cyfnod Preswyl 3 Gwneuthurwyr yn Defnyddio Technoleg

Beate Gegenwart is the third artist in our Makers Using Technology residency programme. Beate who mainly works in flat planes, has been using the haptic system Freeform to curl and spherise in a way she can't usually.

Freeform is a haptic modelling system where users create three dimensional work in a virtual space. The system is driven with an omni arm which gives haptic feedback. This means that the shapes and planes made in the virtual space can be felt in the real world. It is a very unusual experience, you can feel with your hand what you can see on the screen.

In order for the artists to be able to make a new piece of work with Freeform, they have been receiving training from the Makers Using Technology team. Towards the end of the training we 3D print a piece that the makers have been working on, so that they can have something tangible and see the scale of the work in real life.

This week we printed some pieces of Beate's work on our Projet additive manufacturing machine. The machine builds forms via thin layers of resin.

Yr wythnos hon gwnaethom argraffu rhai darnau o waith Beate ar ein peiriant gweithgynhyrchu adiol Prosiect. Mae’r peiriant yn adeiladau ffurfiau drwy haenau tenau o resin.

The residencies are being offered by Design Wales Forum, and have been funded by the Arts Council Wales through the lottery fund, and the National Centre for Product Design and Research.
